Damage Control, WKD, Project Ego and even Kev and Krev claimed to be the best tag team in GPW. After several controversial battles between the 4, Richard Noble finally decided to settle the matter once and for all in a tornado tables elimination match with an added bonus, the winners of the match would be crowned the first ever GPW Tag Team Champions. The match was scheduled to take place in the main event of the evening but before we got to the match there were several great matches.

Tag Team Match
The Mil-Anfield Connection versus Rupert and Mike Holmes

This match came about as a result of what took place at the last show, Jiggy Walker tired of Mike’s so called “dodgy officiating” in his matches had challenged Mike to team with his brother Rupert against the MilAnfield Connection. The action was quick and fast with the Holmes duo showing great teamwork despite it being their first match as a tag team.
Joseph Hayes versus Paul “Demo” Gibson
Hayes came into this match full of momentum after his big win over Bubblegum at Back with a Bang and despite Demo’s loss to Sabotage at the same event he seemed more focused then ever in his attempt to end Hayes winning streak.

Intergender Challenge Match
Dirk Feelgood versus SIN Member Minx

Dirk had a bit of fun with Minx in the early going embarrassing her with several humiliating mouenevers and seemed to have the match well in hand until the timely interference of SIN Members Hayes and Phere (who still hadn’t left ringside) gave Minx the upper hand allowing Minx to work over Feelgood’s injured arm.

GPW British Championship Match
Jonny Phere versus Champion “Dangerous” Damon Leigh

DDL fresh off his huge win over Alex Shane again had a lot of pressure on him going into this match, having only just regained the title from Shane a month ago after waiting a year for a title shot, could he possibly lose the title to a hungry Jonny Phere?

Joseph Hayes versus Bubblegum

This match was a rematch from the last show, Back with a Bang and it just got going when Mr Noble reappeared and said he had changed the match it was now going to be a triple threat match, the third man? El Ligero making his return to GPW.

Joseph Hayes versus Bubblegum versus El Ligero

The next match praised by the GPW fans as being a potential match of the year got off to a great start with some great exchanges. The action was fast and furious and Hayes, despite having competed earlier managed to keep up with the 2 high flyers. Each man had the opportunity to win the match but the third man always broke up the pinfall at the last possible moment.

Main Event: Tornado Tables Elimination Match for the GPW Tag Team Championship
Project Ego versus Kev and Krev versus Damage Control versus WKD

Finally it was time for the main event of the evening. As previously stated Kev and Krev were in the match and Project Ego was represented by Kris Travis and Scotty Hexx, WKD by C Juice and D Lyrium and Damage Control by “The Dragon” Sean Macleane and Dom Travis.

Another Great British Wrestling DVD from GPW.

Back with a Bang 2006

Another Great British Wrestling DVD from GPW. Recorded live at the Monaco Ballroom Hindley

The first show of 2006 kicked off with a party and not just any party, Dirk Feelgood’s birthday party. This party had a bit of everything including guests (Bubblegum) a clown and even a present given to Dirk by the clown. However, when Dirk opened the gift, it turned out to be none other then SIN member Joseph Hayes and then in another swerve, the clown unmasked to reveal that he was Joseph’s fellow team mate Johnny Phere. A brawl erupted in the GPW arena until it came down to Bubblegum and Joseph Hayes and match number one was on!

Opening Contest:
Joseph Hayes versus Bubblegum

The opening match got the first show of the year off to a great start as these 2 individuals went one on one for the first time. The match was a great showcase of the british cruiserweight style as well as being seriously competitive with neither man wanting to lose the first GPW match of 2006.

Tag Team match
The Mil-Anfield Connection (Danny Hope and Jiggy Walker) versus The Geeks (Rupert Holmes and Elroy Doogle)

The next match was a tag team match. Back in September at Trials and Tribulations, The Geeks defeated The MilAnfield Connection via disqualification so this was a rematch of sorts. However before the match actually began, Walker demanded a replacement referee on the grounds that the current referee (Mike Holmes) for the contest was related to Rupert. In the interest of fairness he was quickly replaced by another official.

Stevie Lynn vs Ruffneck

This match was signed as a result of what took place at Trials and Tribulations. On the night, Ruffneck had tried to interfere in a match between Dangerous Damon Leigh and Mark Kodiak and Stevie Lynn who had wrestled earlier in the show made the save. Before the match began however, MC Angel D Souza announced that Stevie Lynn could not compete due to injury and had set his tag team partner Ice XVII to face Ruffneck on his behalf. This match had an interesting clash of styles as the brawler Ruffneck faced the technique of Ice.

Sabotage vs Spud

This match came about as a result of what took place at the Salvation is Near event back in May. Spud had just defeated El Ligero (albeit due to the distraction by JC Thunder) and Sabotage came out to congratulate him on his victory, or so we thought. After praising Spud, he quickly turned on him, laying him out with a barrage of brutal moves as the stunned crowd looked on. Sabotage said that he was sick of cruiserweights and was going to ensure that from now on, any willing cruiserweight had to defeat him in order to prove they were a wrestler. So Spud had a lot to prove going in to this match. Sabotage made his entrance and then out came Spud. Yet this turned out to be a cruel setup perpetrated by Sabotage as his opponent turned out to be a Mr Potato Head toy from a childs toy box. Sabotage offered to give “Spud” a fighting chance saying he had to the count of 5 to kick out of any pinfalls and the match began.

The W K DanceOff Challenge

This contest was organised by fan favourites WKD who hoped to send a message to their rivals, Damage Control, Project Ego and Kev and Krev about who the next tag team champions would be in GPW. The teams began to dance until they were interrupted by Flood of Damage Control who seemed to have his own message to send. Flood claimed that his regular tag partner The Dragon could not make the show but he had found a replacement, the cousin of Project Ego’s Kris Travis.

The Main Event: GPW British Championship Match:
“Dangerous” Damon Leigh versus Champion “The Show Stealer” Alex Shane

This match was just over 12 months in the making and the crowd had been anticipating the bout all evening and it did not disappoint. Shane had “stolen” the belt back in January 2005 and it had not been seen in GPW since so this was DDL’s big chance to get the belt back.

<a href="http://www.gpwshop.co.uk/product/back_with_a_bang_2006/ "TARGET="_blank">Back with a Bang 2006 and other Great British Wrestling DVD's are available from GPW

GPW: Back II School DVD now available

GPW: Back II School

Following on from the 5th Anniversary Supershow, Back II School brings you even more high-flying action, from the best in Great British pro wrestling today!

Six Man Tag Team Match

Voodoo & The Next Generation Superstars Vs “Iron” Mike Homes & Lethal Dose

One of the staple ingredients to your GPW diet raises it head once again as 6 of the best up and coming stars on the roster battle it out in a 6 man tag! This was a huge occasion for them and the fans loved it. Not many wrestling promotions make it this far and they are proud to have, with every year being better than the last!

The show featured the following matches

6-Man Tag Action

WKD vs. Mil-Anfield Connection & Juice

One of the staple GPW matches over the last 5 years, the 6 Man makes an appearance with 6 of the best guys on the undercard just bursting to get to the next level. So much history in this match

One Last Time

JC Thunder vs. El Ligero

The single most controversial match that has ever taken place at any of our events over the last 5 years. The match that got us banned from promoting events in the Greater Manchester area returns for one last time...!

No Holds Barred

TJ Cain vs. Joey Hayes

No words do this match justice to hype it up. Simply un-hypable. TJ Cain vs. Joey Hayes - No Holds Barred - a match no one ever thought they'd see.

Bull Rope Match

Heresy vs. Si Valour

Valour accuses Heresy of losing his bottle after losing his British Title. Has he? Or are these just mind games from the veteran? One thing is for sure, he has avoided taking Valour on for months. July 4th, they'll be no escape as these two will be tied to each other by a Bull Rope!

British Title match

Jac Dominotrescu vs Dangerous Damon Leigh

Can DDL regain his British title from the Eastern Bloc's Jac?

GPW Heavyweight Title 4-Way Threat

Johnny Phere vs. Darkside vs. Dirk Feelgood vs. Bubblegum

Never has the Heavyweight title been surrounded by so much controversy. July 4th will see the end of it and a this feud settled. Someone has to win this, 3 men will leave as losers in our 5th Anniversary gigantic main event.

30 man Rumble

All the GPW stars, past and present in the rumble, who will come out on top?

The DVD is on sale now
